Do you still remember the Maddox's absolute dominance in Black Ops 4 from seven years back? It was the weapon that defined an era. bo7 bot lobbies's Season 1 has officially launched, and the legend is back.
It is not uncommon for developers to bring back classics, but they often do so in a way that feels watered-down or balanced, resulting in mediocrity. Maddox RFB makes an exception.
After extensive tests in Nuketown Confirmed and Kill Domination, I can confidently state: Not only is it back but it could also be even better. It doesn't matter if you're an experienced player trying to achieve 100+ kills, or a casual one just looking to survive. This gun is the most powerful weapon available.
The bo7 accounts Level 1 Anomalous
This is a rare thing to hear about COD in the modern era: you don't require attachments for this gun to be dominant.
I immediately jumped in my first match with an actual Level 1, naked Maddox. No grip or sight. What is the result? I smashed 106 enemies and called for a tactical Nuke.
What does that mean for you, exactly?
It allows you to skip the annoying leveling-up process where you get destroyed every time because your gun kicks as hard as a mule.
Visuals The iron sights are clean and ready for use.
Even without the foregrip on the beam, it is stable.
Hack Accusations The gun is so powerful that the enemy team believed I was wall hacking by my first match. My teammates even asked me if I am an AI since I would not miss.
When you see the lobby mistakenly believe that you are cheating with your first shot, you can be sure the stats have been tampered with.
The Zero-Barrel Meta Loadout
Although the base weapon is a beast, we'd like to convert it into something that feels more like the BO4 classic. This is what you get after unlocking every item. There's something odd about my setup: I don’t use a gun barrel. The range of the car is enough. What we need now is pure speed.
ELO Sight
If you played Battlefield 4, you will know that this item is not negotiable. ELOs are better than iron sights because they give you a clearer picture of the target.
Underbarrel EM 90 Grip
This is where you want to be. This allows you to maintain horizontal recoil control, allowing the gun to shoot straight. You are harder to hit, while your shots are accurate.
Magazine: Extended 50 Round Mag
Here is a little secret: The current 50-round magazine has no cons. No movement penalty, no reload penalty. You get unlimited ammo.
Alternative: For those who are addicted to reloading, the Plumage fast mag (40 round) is an excellent choice. But I prefer having the extra 10 rounds for multiple kills.
Rear Grip, Mobile Quickdraw Grips
This will bring back the snappy feeling. It increases the speed of your ADS and ADS slide to fire. It lets you play aggressively even if your sprinting is caught.
Stock: ADS Movement
This increases your strafe pace (walking with aim). When you are in a gunfight with an enemy, you can use this to move left and then right.
Combat reality: survivng the ghost meta
The best weapon doesn't mean you are invincible. During Nuke runs, the Ghost Perk combined with Scout Perk was my biggest enemy.
Even after I received my HARP (Advanced UAV), Ghost users were invisible to me.
You will die, if you solely rely on the minimap.
There were times when I believed a lane would be clear since my HARP had been raised, only to have a ghosted character shoot me in the rear. It's better to use your senses and eye-sight (Squad Link will help you here) than just blindly chase red dots.
Perk Setup to Survive:
The Maddox is an ammo scavenger. You must have this.
Gung Ho: A must-have for anyone who is running away from danger.
Looper: Earn your streaks multiple times (UAV/HARP).
To avoid Counter-UAVs.
The Nuke Story. A lesson in resilience
You can watch the match I played to see how well this loadout performed under pressure.
I was seated on a Brutal (25 Kills) Medal, five from the Nuke. The enemy sent in a Guard Dog. If you've ever played Bo7, then you know that these tanks are dogs.
The dog followed me around the map. I had to use my Maddox's superior speed of movement to slide cancel away, turn and shoot half a round into the dog.
It is because of this that we design for mobility
I would have died if I'd built it to be a range gun (heavy barrel). The speed I built my gun for allowed me to survive, kill the dog (and flip the spawn), and get the Nuke the final kill.
FAQ: Common Questions
Q: Is the BO4 version actually better?
A: Honestly, yes. The hit registration on BO7 is much crisper. Also, the 50-round mag has no downsides. This makes it more forgiving.
Q: What is the reason for no barrel attachments?
A: Maddox already hits very hard. Addition of a barrel is usually detrimental to your aim-downsight (ADS), or slows down your movement. It's best to play this gun like a hybrid SMG/AR. Do not ruin your agility by adding a tiny range.
Q: What do I do if my ELO is not yet installed?
B: Work your way up the levels. The iron sights work (better then most), but ELO unlocks full aimbot potential.
\ Final Verdict
Maddox RFB's Honeymoon Phase is underway. It is statistically superior, fun to operate, and incredibly strong.
Developers like to make fun things less fun. This class will help you to achieve your goal of dropping your first Nuke.
Grab the EM Study 90, the ELO, and get in the game before the patch drops. See you on leaderboard! Good luck.
